Treatments

The First Visit
This can take up to one hour.  Dr Moruzzi will allow time to take a complete history of your present condition and your general medical history.  This will be followed by an orthopaedic and chiropractic examination.  There are changing room facilities and a full time female receptionist on duty.  Ladies will have a gown to wear during the examination and treatment.  Dr Moruzzi will give an initial report of findings and commence with the treatment.
There are on site parking facilities

Treatment
Treatment may involve a number of safe, gentle and specific techniques designed to re-align the spine and return the body to a normal state of health.  Spinal mobilisation is often used and this may result in a 'popping' sound in the spine.  This occurs when the two surfaces of a joint are seperated and there is a release of pressure in the joint.  This is usually very effective in relieving pain and improving mobility.  Other techniques such as deep tissue massage and stretch, trigger point therapy, ultrasound and interferential therapy are used as required
Treatment is always aimed at being tailored to the needs of the individual.

Second Visit
The second appointment can last up to half an hour.  A full report of findings will be given and a treatment plan set out.  The second treatment will then be given.  The intention is to return the body to full health as quickly as possible.  As soon as is appropriate spinal exercises will be given.

Subsequent Visits
Follow up appointments can last from fifteen minutes to half an hour depending on the needs of the individual.  As there are changing rooms and a receptionist no treatment time is wasted getting changed or making appointments.
Every effort is made to return the body to optimum health without the need for an excessive number of treatments.

Maintenance Care
The body is a complex system.  The stresses and strains of life, poor posture, insufficient exercise and a sedentary lifestyle all put excessive strains on the spine.  After full spinal health is achieved it is often advisable to have occasional 'maintenance' treatments.  This will help to prevent recurrent episodes of spinal and musculo-skeletal problems.

Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy

At the Tunbridge Wells Chiropractic Clinic we often see pregnant women.  During pregnancy most women experience a number of neuromuscular and biomechanical problems.  These changes often respond favourably to gentle, safe, non-invasive chiropractic care.

Changes in Pregnancy
These changes include:

- release of the hormone relaxin causing muscle and joint relaxation which allows the joints to more easily misalign.

- increased weight gain which can cause fatigue in the spinal and pelvic muscles and ligaments as well as an increase in the lumbar and thoracic curves.  This can lead to vertebral and sacroiliac joint misalignments.

- change in weight distribution which increases demand on spinal and pelvic muscles and ligaments.

These changes affect the the pelvic and spinal muscles, ligaments, joints and other supportive soft tissues.  These changes cause pelvic sprains and strains resulting in pain and discomfort.

Chiropractic Treatment During Pregnancy
There are gentle spinal and pelvic adjustment procedures that can be used for the pregnant female.  There is also soft tissue work such as massage and trigger point therapy to keep the muscles relaxed and flexible and to reduce bouts of muscle ache and pain. The overall aim is to:
- prevent pain
- maintain correct posture in the spine and pelvis
- minimise soft tissue discomfort
- minimse complications in birth by optimising spinal and pelvic mechanics

Therapeutic Exercise and Stretch

Advice will be given about stretching and exercise in pregnancy.  This will help to keep the spine and pelvis strong, active and pain free.

Anyone wishing to discuss with Dr Moruzzi the potential benefits of Chiropractic care during pregnancy can always phone him to seek his advice.  If he is busy he will return your call as promptly as possible.
